Circulation Abilities for different Patron Statuses
Blocked, Barred, and Collection statuses
There are some situations where we want to be able to perform certain circ tasks for "blocked" patrons. For example, a patron may call a branch to ask for a hold, and indicate that they will settle up their account when they come in to pick up the hold. Below is a table of what staff can do for patrons in WorkFlows, and what patrons can do in the online catalog.
Place Hold (WF) | Checkout (WF) | Renew (WF) | Place Hold (Online) | Renew (Online) | |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Blocked | Requires Override | Not Allowed* | Allowed | Not Allowed | Allowed |
Barred | Not Allowed | Not Allowed | Not Allowed | Not Allowed | Not Allowed |
Collections | Not Allowed* | Not Allowed* | Not Allowed* | Not Allowed | Not Allowed |
Notes:
- Scenarios above marked with an asterisk (*) will encounter a Standing Map Policy CheckOut: Error. See details below.
- The online circulation functions only apply to our physical catalog and does not apply to OverDrive and other downloadable catalog offerings.
User Standing Map Policy Error in WorkFlows
In some instances, staff will encounter a popup error message.
This is not an error per se - but it is confusing additional information that is only helpful for MFRL-IT. The patron is not necessarily in a Barred status, but they are barred from that particular function. The patron has been rightfully denied.
The popup may hinder some circ staff's natural flow for investigating issues. However, the patron information can still be discovered by using the Display User tool in the Users section.
Services Available to Different Patron Statuses
Barred patrons are unable to use public computers and most online resources. Online resources accessibility does vary by authentication method, but Barred patron will not be able to access the major providers such as Overdrive, Hoopla, and Recorded Books.
Blocked and Collections status patrons are able to use public computers and online resources.
Expired patrons are unable to use public computers and most online resources.
