Here is some new information and “best practices” for Ephemerals.

The Ephemeral checkout wizard requires User ID, Item ID, and Number of items.

Permissible:

If you have a patron who, for example, is going to the beach and wants a couple of unbarcoded paperbacks that don’t need to be returned:

  • Use Ephemeral wizard
  • Enter Patron’s User ID
  • Enter your branch’s Ephemeral Item ID
    • This should be pre-populated by default
    • FYI, they are BB-E, CB-E, F-E, MPL-E, VAN-E
  • Enter number of items

Otherwise, the procedure is:

If using a patron’s User ID isn’t feasible, or if you are tracking Little Library checkouts, etc.:

  • Use Ephemeral wizard
  • New! Enter your branch’s Ephemeral User ID
    • The User IDs are BB-E, CB-E, F-E, MPL-E, VAN-E
  • Enter your branch’s Ephemeral Item ID
    • These should be pre -populated by default
    • FYI, they are BB-E, CB-E, F-E, MPL-E, VAN-E
  • Enter number of items

New stuff!

Do Not use your personal User ID or a random patron’s User ID

The branches’ Ephemeral User IDs are new (though we did have similar long ago). For convenience I created the User IDs to match the branch’s Ephemeral ID, so it should be easy for staff to remember.
